What is a Level 1 chimney inspection?
A Level 1 inspection is the annual visual check of a chimney and appliance that have not changed since the last one. The technician looks at the readily accessible parts — the firebox, the visible flue, the connection to the appliance and the outside of the stack — for sound structure, correct clearances, and anything blocking the flue or building up inside it.
Nothing is dismantled and no panels come off.
When is it actually needed?
Once a year for a system in continuous use with no changes to it, before the burning season starts. NFPA 211 asks for a yearly inspection whether or not the chimney needs sweeping.
