Know your rights in Illinois

Illinois issues no state licence that covers chimney sweeping, inspection or relining, so no state exam stands between a homeowner and whoever shows up — which makes the questions you ask, and the paperwork you keep, the whole of your protection. What the state does give you is a home-repair regime with teeth: written contracts, a consumer-rights pamphlet, and a three-day right to cancel on work sold at your door. The City of Chicago runs its own contractor and permit rules on top of the state's, and they are not the same rules as the suburbs this company serves.
